How to find & create your own idea of beauty

We never had much money when I was growing up, but my Mom always made our lives beautiful. She did simple things like sharing her wonderful stories, setting the table with candles and a tablecloth for special family dinners, and getting fresh flowers for the house. She would also make me beautiful dresses that made me feel like a princess. I’m sure that is why adding beauty into as many corners of my life is so important and necessary for me. I am a more balanced person who sees so much magic when I am paying attention to all of the beautiful people and things around me. Beauty gives me joy, happiness, and a warm loving feeling inside.

The more we can experience these types of feelings, the easier it is to be balanced in all aspects of life, including physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. This all leads to living a healthier life, better heart health, and helps boost our immune system. When we are happy and joyful, dopamine and serotonin are released from the brain, both of which are associated with experiencing pleasure. These neurotransmitters help with your mood, memory, sleep, libido, and appetite. We are also better problem solvers when we are in a positive emotional state, and I find that my intuition soars! Think about a time when you were in a bad mood where everything irritates you. You seem to attract people who are in a similar grumpy place and your mood just gets worse. Now, think about a time when you were so happy and the world was a wonderful place! In this state you seem to attract others who are also feeling these same emotions.

Here is a bit of my playbook on how I bring beauty inside and out!

1. Make a list of all the beautiful things in your life. This can include:

  • Yourself (always start with yourself)

  • Mother Nature

  • Your family

  • Friends

  • Your home

  • Your workplace

  • Places you have traveled to

  • Incredible places you want to visit

  • Pets you have

  • Wildlife you see

Add whatever you find beautiful, even if you think it is unconventional.

2. Determine what in your environment is not bringing you joy. Is it time to sell or donate them? When we declutter, we make space for the new to enter our lives, and ultimately make room for more joy and beauty.

3. What ways can you bring beauty into other people’s lives?

  • Smile at a stranger

  • Be kind, loving, understanding, and compassionate to others. See the beautiful soul that everyone has.

  • Buy a coffee for someone for no reason.

  • Give a compliment

  • Do a selfless deed, with no expectation of getting anything in return.

  • Volunteer

  • Listen to someone

4. Make a beauty board and put it somewhere that you can see it through your day. Be creative, it could even be a collage for your computer background.

5. Take care of the earth because she is so incredibly beautiful and oftentimes we take that for granted. What are some extra things you can do to honor and care for the earth? Look at Mother Earth with wonder and gratitude.

6. Make a gratitude list every day and remain in a place of gratitude as much as possible to help you stay in a positive mood.

What steps are you going to take today to add more beauty into your life?

To help further assist you in creating beauty in your life, I created a meditation for you:

Love and light,
Karen
